Who We Are

OVERVIEW

Brian Abbott founded the company in 2004.

David Thompson brings a wealth of archeological and diving experience to the team.

BRIAN ABBOTT

Mr. Abbott has worked since 1990 in the area of bridge substructures and stream hydraulics. He is also an H.S.E. certified part 1 air commercial diver. Brian has been a commercial diver for over 10 years. Prior to starting NMGI, he was employed by several major engineering firms, where he worked on underwater inspections, bridge structures and stream hydraulics. This work included the scour analysis on two signature bridges, hydraulic sizing of new bridges, replacement bridges, bank stabilization on rivers and dam inspections throughout the western United States. Brian also participated in numerous bridge inspections for Parson Engineering Science, Abbott Bridge Engineering and H.N.T.B.

DAVID THOMPSON
Diving since 1971 and instructing since 1978, Mr. Thompson holds undergraduate degrees in History and Italian Studies and graduate degrees in Oceanic Education, Management and Supervision, and Archaeology. He served for 26 years in the U.S. Navy and was rated as a Master Training Specialist and served as a NOSAH and Medical INSURV inspector. He is a Past President of the International Archaeological Society, Naples, Italy, and has participated in digs throughout Italy. An active SCUBA Master Instructor, he has completed over 3,500 dives and certified over 1000 students at all levels as well as being an active first aid/CPR/AED instructor. Mr. Thompson currently also serves as an Adjunct Instructor at Michigan State University and as a volunteer researcher for the Michigan Maritime Museum.
